Did You Know?
This State Park Is Supposed to Be Disconnected
Most people picture a state park as one continuous property. Culpeper Battlefields is being assembled differently: its future 2,200-plus acres are spread across separate landscapes tied to Brandy Station, Cedar Mountain, Kelly’s Ford, Rappahannock Station and the Hansbrough Ridge winter encampment. The land is being transferred to Virginia in phases through 2027, so the park that exists today is only part of the final footprint. That patchwork is intentional. It preserves the actual ground where several different campaigns unfolded instead of forcing the history into one neat boundary.
